color me a clementine

My little uncle gave me a bag of clementines to take back with me when i was home for the holidays and this here is the last one of the bunch. I took it to work for lunch and noticed how cute it looked sitting on my shelf. It is even cuter in person, not your typical round one. This got a slight slant to it. I had to resist eating it. Made me think of a tiny little breast.

Maybe a series of prints of these? hmmm.

  2. hey Paula! :). thanks! i was just wondering if i should remove some of the drawings. hmmm.
i still have the little clementine, sitting on my desk shelf at home now. will let it dry and see how it changes its shape. it's interesting to see how it is already starting to look skinnier, and color not as bright, but still cute.

  4. it's so funny how sometimes you've got a piece of nature in your hand, which doesnt fulfill the expectations in this fruit's size and shape. So if you paint or draw it, one likes to say "OH-no-this- looks-wrong".
I once had this with an apple which was one part red and one part green with a clear line between the halves. I simply didn't paint it. It's been delicious ;)).

  7. Tickled by what you wrote - the clementine like a tiny breast (yes!) and being cute 'in person' :). She's definitely got character, and I like the way her shape suggests weight affected by gravity. We're in sync (I first wrote sink!) with our colours today, tickled me too.
Got a lemon that's dry and almost rock hard. Not sure what I'll do with it. The vibrancy of the colour goes, alas.
Can't wait to see you making clementine prints (the drawings are lovely, tentative). You've got quite an array of printed fruit, hope you're getting enough to eat.

  10. mien, love your little clementine, (a little breast indeed!) and the little drawings to go with it, especially the last with one nestled in the other. Oranges have always been a favorite of mine, I carried one in my lunch nearly everyday of early elementary school until an unfortunate incident with a mean older boy who took to calling me Orange Girl, to the utter dismay of my Mom I wouldn't eat them except at home. Right now (really right now, I am eating one) my favorites are Red Navels. How's that for erotic fruit?
Today I was finally able to go to my favorite used book store and while I didn't find a book for us I did find a tiny little replica of a 1746 book maybe for my brother's birthday (if I can stand to give it up). I'll post it after his birthday and keep looking for ours.

  12. beutiful friut and drawing, so nice the way it looks relaxed, comfortable, as if it is in an armchair. the gentle slump of it's bottom and that slant, like it is falling asleep, delightful, and well worth printing.
