  1. Avocado---just one small sound and one small spelling away from Spanish abogado 'lawyer', is not just a fruit of justice, but also a fruit of fertility: ahuacatl, from which the name ultimately comes, is Nahuatl (= Aztec) for 'testicle'.

So: earthy life and painted pinks! These are lovely.

  2. I love their taste and smoothness and always try to remove one half of the skin without any damage. The colour you gave them makes them erotically beautiful.....(blush)

  4. Your art always feel so concentrated. It seems simple in a way but it is sooo loaded and strong. How do you do it??? I don´t know why I like these painted avocados so much... but I do!

  6. thank you Everyone for your thought-full words. it's funny, i keep looking at these painted avocado skin and as much as my mind is usually full of eroticism kind of stuff, i was not so consciously aware of it in these. and still now i don't quite see it. is it so blatantly there? do you guys know that beneath the pink is gold? i don't know why but i just love that about them.

Rcbc, love the connection you made between words and across languages. it seems to quite go with how these are being perceived. it's true how these avocado-like shapes are often associated with fertility, womanhood, isn't it?

Uschi, your comment made me smile. like we are sharing secrets. :). i am hungry for one right now.

Cally, i thought of you when i posted this image as i know you would like this pink against that clean space, as you say.

Olga, so happy to see you here! thank you for your words. they lifted my spirit that day. and the next. and now, too. :).

Dear Wendy, thank you also for your very encouraging words and the time you took to look through my work. i am not ready for sales yet but when i am, i will definitely let you know. very curious to know what you'll be creating with your new press. will you show us? hope to know more about what you do. and Whidbey Island sounds beautiful. i'm really bad with my geography and had to look it up where it is. Washington state of US, everyone.

  7. I really like these painted avocado skins. Great use of color. A few possible combinations of meanings came up for me: inner/outer skin, manipulated and transformed natural object, and a hint of eroticism.

  10. hi Tim, good to see you here! :). love that you picked up on the inner/outer skin. it's a frequent theme in my work, so much that i'm almost not even aware of it anymore.

Grace, Grace. :). i know something must be keeping you good and busy!

Wendy, i don't think i am familiar with shellac plate printing. you have me even more curious now! so glad to hear that you'll be blogging soon. i think blogger is extremely user-friendly. it has different layouts to choose from and then you can kind of customize it without having to know much html. the only thing i think to watch out for is probably the image storage limit. i think you only get 1gb or something and then after that, you would have to pay for more storage space. i've seen many bloggers linking images to their flickr account so maybe that is a good way to conserve space usage.
i gotta run right now. if i think of anything else, i'll let you know.
